State five reasons why diviners patronize traditional West African art

This question was not popular among the candidates as it was evaded by the majority. The few candidates that attempted the question failed to advance the necessary points and thus, failed to get the obtainable marks. Candidates should have responded to the question in the following manner:
            -           they felt the need to create an enabling environment for their consultations.
-           sculptures and altar pieces are used in divination to harness the forces of nature.
-           artworks are used to engage spiritual intermediaries.
-           the type of artworks used by a diviner suggests his status and accomplishment.
-           they recommend specific body adornments or sculpture to clients e.g. rings, pendants, bracelets, anklets, etc.  Some of these featuring reptiles and other animals which are considered as intermediaries between human and spirit realms.
-           they personally acquire similar ornaments from artists to aid them in managing their relationships with nature spirits.
-           they also invest in the arts to enhance communication between the spirits and human.

-           they seek artworks, especially in wood, which they believe will help them to understand the causes of disruptions in their lives and to surmount them.
