Question 2

 

 

On a low draped table, place a half transversely cut cucumber slightly diagonally at the centre of the table. Slice the other half into five rings. Discard the tip end. Arrange three of the rings in front of the half, slightly overlapping each other to the left. Place the remaining ring in front of the arranged rings. Draw as arranged.


Observation

 

 

The question attracted many candidates. Though, the question required the candidates to be more detailed which few of them accomplished averagely. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
1.         DRAWING QUALITY                 
(a)       Accurate drawing of a transversely cut cucumber.                                         
(b)       Accurate drawing of the overlapping rings of cucumber.                               
(c)       Accurate drawing of the two remaining rings in front of the arranged rings. 
(d)       Ability to draw the top of the table as the baseline/foreground.                       
(e)       Ability to depict the drapery.                                                                               
2.         TONE/COLOUR                            
Ability to use tone/colour to:                       
(a)       depict the forms of the cucumber transversely cut diagonally and
            rings overlapping;                                                                                            
 (b)      show the correct source of light on the cucumber;                                       
(c)       create the correct feeling of unity in the composition.                                  
3.         COMPOSITION                            
(a)       Centrality of the objects on the paper to create a good image.                     
(b)       Proportional relationship of parts of the objects.                                          
(c)       Use of working space to advantage (not too small or too big).                    
(d)       Indication of appropriate baseline.                                                                
4.         ORIGINALITY                              
(a)       Showing effective drawing skill and personalized style.                            

(b)       Showing effective use of art materials (colour, pencil, pen and ink).
