Candidate's Weakness

Candidates’ weaknesses include:

  1. Inability to write extensively on the chosen topics.  They wrote far below the required 300 words;
  2. Inability to approach the argumentative essay properly, they did not balance their arguments;
  3. Carelessness as regards the use of modern Yoruba orthography;
  4. Inability to use tone-marks appropriately;
  5. Inability to indicate the question numbers attempted and in some cases, writing incorrect numbers;
  6. Inability to write good Yoruba and correct spelling of terms;
  7. Inappropriate use of punctuation marks;
  8. Lack of in-depth knowledge or poor background in phonology;
  9. Shallow knowledge of the set texts;
  10. Illegible handwriting.

Suggested Remedies

  1. The use of Yoruba as a means of communication should be encouraged;
  2. Students should be encouraged to buy the recommended textbooks;
  3. Candidates should imbibe the habit  of studying the set texts thoroughly;
  4. Candidates should prepare and equip themselves well with the knowledge and correct use of punctuation marks;
  5. Teachers should give special attention to the identified areas of candidates’ weaknesses in their teaching.
