Candiate's Weakness and Remedies

 

CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES

 Candidates’ weaknesses include:

  1. Inability to write extensively on the chosen topics. They wrote far below        the required 300 words;  
  2. Failure to use adequate techniques in answering argumentative essay properly. They did not balance their arguments;
  3. Improper use of punctuation marks;
  4. Inability to use tone-marks appropriately;
  5. Carelessness as regards the use of modern Yoruba orthography;
  6. Inability to indicate correctly the question numbers attempted and in some cases, not indicating at all;
  7. Inability to write good Yoruba;
  8. Inability to spell terms correctly;
  9. Poor knowledge of the selected texts.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

  1. The use of Yoruba as a means of communication should be encouraged;
  2. Candidates should be encouraged to buy the recommended textbooks;
  3. Candidates should imbibe the habit of studying the set texts thoroughly;
  4. Candidates should equip themselves with the knowledge and correct use of punctuation marks;
  5. Candidates should give special attention to the identified weaknesses in the preparation for the examination;
  6. Use of public library or cooperative method to ensure adequate exposure to selected texts;
  7. Yorùbá language teachers should emphasize thoroughness in teaching Composition as an integral part of the Language Section of the paper.
