QUESTION 2

Place two transparent crates of eggs containing six eggs each at the centre of a low table against the wall. Arrange the crates of eggs on one another revealing the eggs.
Draw objects as composed.

Observation

 

The question was well attempted by the candidates. The candidates’ performance for this question was average. They were expected to respond to the question thus:


1.         DRAWING QUALITY                 

(a)      Accurate drawing of a half-cut watermelon facing up on a low table placed against a wall.            
(b)       Accurate drawing of a half part of the second half with its back on the
table behind the half size overlapping the quarter halfway.                     
(c)       Effective arrangement and drawing of the quarter size on the right with
the red juicy part on the table in the front overlapping the half size
halfway.                                                                                
2.         TONE/COLOUR                            

Ability to use tone/colour to:                      

  1. depict the correct forms of the half cut and quarter cut watermelon.       
  2. show the correct source of light on the watermelon on the low table against the wall.
  3. create the correct feeling of unity in the composition.      

3.         COMPOSITION                            

(a)       Centrality of the objects on the paper to create a good image.                 
(b)       Proportional relationship of the watermelon on the low table against the wall.
(c)       Use of working space to advantage (i.e., drawing not drawn too big or too small for the available space).  
(d)       Indication of appropriate base line.                                    

 

4.         ORIGINALITY                              
(a)       Showing effective drawing skill and personalized style in the drawing.    5 marks
(b)       Showing effective use of art materials (colour, pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink).
