Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies

The following weaknesses were observed from the candidates’ response:

            -           inability to specify the types of foundation suitable for the given types of soil;
-           poor knowledge of setting-out tools;
-           wrong labeling of their sketches.

To overcome these weaknesses, candidates should be well exposed to:

-           different types of soil and reasons for using a particular type of foundation and if possible, to go for excursion on a construction site;

-           setting out tools by showing them practically to see while teaching;
-           sketches and labeling by giving them as an assignments on daily bases.  In addition the student should be given opportunity to go for industrial training for one month during their long vacation.
