Question 1
(GEN. 1, 2: 1-3)
- Narrate the first account of how God created the universe.
- In what three ways does the first creation story demonstrate God’s sovereignty?
Observation
This question was very popular among the candidates. However, the flaw noticed was that candidates did not get the right sequence in which these creations took place and they mixed up the events that happened on the various days. Some other candidates wrote about the second creation story which made them lose valuable marks. Below are expectations of how candidates were to write the sequence in which the creation took place;
- On the first day, God said, let there be light and there was light; God saw that it was good.
- He separated light from darkness, calling light day, and darkness, night.
- The second day, God made the firmament in the mist of water to separate the waters from the waters. God called the firmament heaven.
- On the third day, God commanded the waters on earth to be gathered together into one place for dry land to appear. He called the dry land earth and the water seas.
- God created the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day to separate the day from the night, for signs and seasons, for days and years.
- On the fifth day, God commanded the waters to bring forth sea creatures of all kinds and also, birds of all nature to fly above in the skies of heavens and earth.
- God blessed them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
- On the sixth day, God made the land animals of different kinds and beast of different species to inhabit the earth.
- God mandated man to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth and subdue it.
- On the seventh day, God rested from work, blessed this day and hallowed it to mark the end of His work of creation.
In the B part which required that candidates should state how the first creation story demonstrated God’s sovereignty, most of the candidates did well while some lacked the understanding to tackle this question. The overall performance of the candidates was average on this question. Candidates were expected to list some of the points as follows;
- God’s spoken word translated into visible reality.
- God was created by nobody thus; He is the Alpha and Omega.
- God has power over all creation.
- God is perfect; all created things are good.
- God alone determines the nature of every creature/ Absolute law maker.
- He is a God of order, not of anarchy
