They did not know how to tackle such question which cuts across all the synoptic gospels. They were expected to draw out similarities and also list out the differences in the accounts of these gospels. A detailed way candidates are expected to answer such questions is given below.
- After the Sabbath, and towards dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulcher where Jesus had been buried.
- There was a great earthquake, as an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled back the stone covering the entrance to the tomb and sat upon it.
- The appearance of the angel was like lightening, and his dress as white as snow.
- The guards at the tomb were terrified at the sight of the angel.
- The angel told the women about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- He said: “Do not be afraid for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified”.
- He is not here; for he has risen as he said”
- He asked them to quickly go and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead and was going before them to Galilee.
- Upon hearing this good news of the resurrection, the women quickly departed from the tomb with great joy, and run to tell the disciples.
- According to the account some of the guards were bribed to deny the resurrection of Jesus, which they did.
- The eleven disciples met Jesus at a mountain in Galilee.
- When they saw him they worshipped him; but some doubted.
- Jesus came and said to them, “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
- Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’’
- Luke, however, reports that Jesus, on the evening of the resurrection day, interacted with two men going to Emmaus.
- They narrated the story of the passion to him.
- Jesus revealed himself to them and then vanished.
- At Jerusalem, Jesus appeared to them all and ate with the disciples to convince them that he was not a ghost.
