Observation
This question was less popular among the candidates. A large percentage of the candidates who attempted this question performed below average. In the (b) part, candidates showed weaknesses as they were not able to highlight the importance of UDHR to humanity. The marking scheme was generous thus; this gave candidates the opportunity to score a reasonable number of marks in both parts of the questions.. Points expected of candidates include;
THE SEVEN CORE FREEDOMS AS ESTABLISHED IN THE UDHR CHARTER
- Right to life, liberty and dignity of human person
- Freedom from discrimination by gender, race, ethnicity, national origin or religion
- Right to freedom of movement and to choose a residence within the borders of each State
- Right to freedom from forced labour, slavery, slavery-like practices and servititude
- Right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly
- Right to freedom of expression, thought, conscience or religion
- Right to freedom of belief, opinion and expression
WAYS INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS CONTRIBUTE TO THE UPHOLDING OF THE VISIONS AND MISSIONS OF UDHR
- Individuals and groups should always make efforts at claiming their rights from time to time.
- Individuals, groups and corporate organizations should give financial assistance/legal aids to those who have been denied of their rights.
- They should respect the rights of other citizens.
- They should make effort to know how their rights can be exercised without infringing on other people’s rights.
- Individuals and groups should be willing to report cases of human right abuse to various government agencies set up for such purposes.
- Formation of human rights groups.
- Participation in political activities.
