Question 3
3(a).State two important body measurements required for making the rectangle for drafting each of the following blocks:
-
(i)skirt
(ii)sleeve
(b)State one function each of the following during garment construction:
(i)long ruler;
(ii)French curve;
(iii)pencil;
(iv)tape measure
(c).Mention two ways of obtaining pattern in garment making
Observation
Most of the candidates could only identify the skirt length and sleeve length. Many of them could not identify the hip and arm circumference for the skirt and sleeve respectively.
The skirt require hip and skirt length measurement while for sleeve, arm circumference and sleeve length measurements are required.
3(b) candidates were required to state the functions of long ruler, French curve, pencil and tape measure used during garment construction.
Candidates tried to answer this question but their answers were not technical enough. Long ruler is for drawing/ruling long straight lines. French curves are used for making curved lines such as necklines, hipline, armhole etc. The pencil is useful for marking points on paper pattern, drawing lines, for sketching, for writing, for shading etc. The tape measure is used for taking body measurements, for measuring fabric and for measuring distance required
3(c) This was on ways of obtaining pattern in garment making many candidates got it right while others did not candidates should be able to mention ways of obtaining pattern in garment making correctly. These are through commercial pattern, drafting method, knock- off, copying method, computer aided method, draping/modeling method, freehand method and flat pattern method
