Observation

This was another popular question and was well attempted by candidates.
A large number of candidates that attempted it got the definition right by defining pressure group as the association of people whose main aim is to influence government policies and decisions to their advantage.
Furthermore, candidates did very well in the (b) part of the question by outlining the five factors  required.  Although some few weak candidates listed the strategies by which Pressure groups achieve their objectives thereby losing substantial marks.

The overall candidates’ performance in the question was good.  The very good candidates who scored high marks and did not fail to identify some of the following factors:

  • Weak leadership renders pressure groups ineffective and makes them unable to achieve their demands;
  • A poorly organized pressure group will be non-achiever;
  • Indiscipline among members of pressure groups;
  • lack of fund serves as one of the major impediments to the activities of pressure groups because
  • Majority of their activities are carried out with money;
  • The type of system of government being adopted in a country determines the success of pressure groups, etc.
