(b) Highlight four advantages of Universal Adult Suffrage.
Observation
This was a popular question. Those who attempted it understood its demand. However, few candidates performed well in part (b) and score good marks. The candidates were expected to write the following points as answers to the question:
(a) It is the right given to eligible qualified adults to vote and be voted for during elections irrespective of colour, race, sex, or creed.
(b)(i) Promotion of representative and inclusive government.
(ii) All eligible people have the rights to vote.
(iii) Prevention of social discrimination.
(iv) Expression of popular sovereignty.
(v) It promotes principle of one man one vote.
(vi) It confers legitimacy on government.
(vii) It safeguards both civil and political rights.
(viii) It promotes/encourages political participation.
(ix) It enhances /promotes national unity and integration.
(x) It arouses the interest of the citizens in government and governance.
(xi) It enhances probity and accountability in government.
(xii) It protects the interest of the minorities.
(xiii) It allows for equal opportunities for all qualified citizens to take part in politics.
