This was a very popular question. The candidates performed very well in it. Although, the question is simple and clear, some candidates misunderstood it. The candidates were expected to provide the following as answers to the question.

1. It promoted political participation.
2. Encouragement of political education.
3. The creation and rising of political consciousness among the people.
4. Encouraged unity of purpose among the elite
5. Led to the formation of political parties.
6. Establishment of vibrant press.
7. Nationalist agitations led to political and constitutional reforms.
8. Political reforms through constitutional conferences.
9. Formation of trade unions and pressure groups.
10. Emergence of powerful individuals and political figures to pursue independence.
11. It enabled citizens to know the weaknesses of the British colonial administration.
12. Contributed to the indigenization of the Civil Service in Nigeria.
