Observation
This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was very poor. In part (a)(i) and (ii) candidates could not correctly state advantages of canned food and disadvantages of canned food. In part (b) candidates could not also correctly give examples of natural food substance that contain iron. In part (c) candidates could not also state deficiency diseases of vitamin E.
However, the expected answers are as follows:
8(a)(i) ADVANTAGES OF CANNED FOOD
- prevents wastage during food gluts
- makes food available during scarcity period
- preserves food items for long period of time
- prevents food contamination during storage.
(ii) DISADVANTAGES OF CANNED FOOD
- if expired/exposed the content can be dangerous to health
- natural taste of food is lost/reduced
- expensive to buy
- may lose some nutrients
(b) EXAMPLES OF NATURAL FOOD SUBSTANCES THAT CONTAIN IRON
- liver/red meat/kidney
- eggs
- vegetables/green leafy vegetables/cassava
