(a) List any three centres of iron works in pre-colonial Nigeria.
(b) Describe any four process involved in producing iron implements in pre-colonial Nigeria. |
This was another popular question and some candidates were able to perform satisfactorily. They were able to list the centres of iron works in pre-colonial Nigeria such as Jos, Taruga, Kano, etc. However, in describing the process involved in producing iron implements, they fell short of the stages in sequential order. The candidates were expected to give the following answers among others.
(i) First, the iron ore is searched for and collected from pits and
Quarries;
(ii) It was put in furnaces and heated to obtain the pig iron and slag.
(iii) The pig iron is further smelted and cut into smaller sizes;
(iv) The smaller piece is heated in a red hot charged fire in a
Furnace etc.
