CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES

Candidates’ weakness as evidenced in their work included:

    (1)Skimpy answers

Most of the candidates’ answers were too short and incomprehensive. They were sketchy and lacked satisfactory details. They sometimes merely mentioned the points.

    (2)Poor expression

Many of the candidates could not express their ideas in simple language. They used poor tenses and this distorted their intended facts and rendered the whole work sordid.

    (3)  Irrelevant points

Some of the candidates’ answers were full of verbiage. Instead of expressing their facts in a concise and comprehensive manner, they sometimes filled in their scripts with irrelevances. This demonstrates their lack of understanding of the requirements of the questions.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

(i)Candidates should make a determined effort to improve their English language by cultivating reading habit.

(ii) Teachers should adequately prepare their candidates for the examination.

(iii)Candidates should be taught how to be creative rather than imitation.

(iv) Candidates should read relevant History textbooks
