This was another popular question to the candidates. Performance here generally, was above average. Candidates were expected to explain the importance of traditional soap making in the pre-colonial time. However, some of them based the discussion on modern day soap production and usage. This aberration and the short listing of points without explanation deprived them some good marks and limited their performance. In order to score good marks, candidates were expected to explain the following points:
- It was used for bathing purposes;
- people used it to wash their clothes, scrub floor etc;
- soap was used to clean wounds, cuts, to treat certain infections;
- it was used to clean jewelry e.g. Gold;
- it was an article of trade in the local economy, etc.
