Points expected from the candidates:
(a) The figures of speech used include: symbolism, metaphor, similes, images etc. The opening lines contain simile and metaphors e.g Naett’s name is ‘mild like cinnamon’
(b) The metaphor which follows moves from the image of taste to that of smell, “the fragrance in which the lemon grove sleeps”
( c) Sensual images are used such as the fragrance in which ‘lemon grove sleeps’ image of strength is conveyed by the violent tornado.
(d) There is the metaphor of the “booming coffee trees”
(e) These figures of speech encapsulate the thought which Senghor has been expressing all along that Naett is a black beauty.
