Observation

Many candidates attempted this question. They showed very poor knowledge of the poem and the use of pun as one of the literary devices in the poem.

Candidates were expected to discuss the following points:

• The interpretation of pun and its relevance to the theme.
• Pun on ‘rest’ as contentment.
• Pun on ‘rest’ as remainder/other.
• Relationship of ‘rest’ to the thematic concerns of the poem.

Candidates' performance was very poor.
