Observation

Few candidates attempted this question. Most of the candidates gave sketchy and scanty responses. They failed to show how the poem highlights the theme of frustrated dreams of the people.

Candidates were expected to discuss the following points:

• An explanation and interpretation of the term ambush.
• The land as a metaphor for an oppressive society.
• The agents of the oppression- giant whale, the hawk and the tiger; the sealed-off avenues of escape – sea, land and air.
• The culminating effect of all these as they frustrate all dreams of escape/success.
