The Chief Examiner reported that this question was a very unpopular question as it was avoided by majority of the candidates. According to the report, majority of those who attempted it performed poorly.
Candidates were expected to draw a straight line and mark a point R on the line. Thereafter, they would locate point S by marking the point on the line which is 7.8 cm from R. At point R, they would construct angle 120o. They would then locate point Q such that |QR| = 5.6 cm. Candidates would then construct a line parallel to such that it intersects at S. They would then locate point P on this line such that |PS| = 5.6 cm and then draw the parallelogram. To construct a rectangle ABRS equal in area with Parallelogram PQRS, candidates were expected to construct perpendiculars from R and S respectively to intersect the line PQ produced at points A and B. ABRS would now be the required rectangle. The length AP was measured as 2.4 cm while |AS| was 4.9 cm.
