This compulsory question was poorly attempted by candidates who performed below expectation.  It is a practical question that could be better understood through exposure to field work.  The factors which determine the location of mine shaft are:

• dip of orebody
• ground conditions
• number of working faces
• transport of material
• drainage
• choice of mining method
• transport of workers
• ventilation
• depth of orebody
• topography of the surface.
