      (c)        Give four reasons for painting a surface.
      
Observation
This  question was very clear and precise in defining, listing types and reasons for  painting a surface. Though, some candidates answered the question correctly,  while others answered the question out of context. The candidates performance  was average. They were expected to provide the following answers to the  question:  
   
(a)        -           A  coloured substance/pigment substance which is spread over a
substrate/surface  which dries to leave a thin decorative or protective coating(film).                                                                              
-           A substance consisting of finely  grounded powdered pigment. Suspended in a medium, which is applied in liquid  form and when exposed to air/heat changed to dry adherent film. 
-           A coloured liquid material which is  applied to a surface to form a coherent film.
