Question 3
The length of a room is 30m while the height is 10m:
(a) Calculate the area of the room in metre square (m2);
(b) find the number of wall paper that will cover the surface using the standard size of British wall paper (10.05 x 530mm).
Observation
Only a few candidates’ were able to calculate correctly, and some failed to write the correct SI unit in their workings and also failed to approximate their final answer. The candidates were expected to write the following points as answers to the question:
(a) - to know the area of the room
Length of the room = 30m
Height (width) of the room = 10m
Area of the room = (L X H)m2
= (30 X 10)m2
= 300m2
(b) - to know the area of a roll of wallpaper:
Area = (length x breath) m2 or (length x width) m2
= 10.05m x 530mm
= 10.05 x 0.530m2
= 5.326m2
͌= 5.33m2
- To know the total numbers of roll required
= Area of the wall
Area of the wallpaper
= 300 rolls
5.33
= 56.3 rolls
͌= 57 rolls
