Observation

The candidates’ did not answer the question in the right order as required. Also the candidates’ were listing equipment and tools instead of materials. The candidates were expected to provide the following answers in order to score good marks:

(a)        -           clean the surface;
-           prime the surface (if it is a new a surface);
-           fill where necessary with stopper filler (making good);
-           apply undercoat, allow to dry;
-           abrade lightly with abrasive paper;
-           apply ground coat, allow to dry;
-           abrade lightly again;
-           apply scumble/glaze to a portion at a time;
-           rag roll skilfully.

(b)        -           abrasive paper.
-           stopper/filler.
-           primer.
-           undercoat.
-           thinner.
-           eggshell/semi-gloss.
-           non-wooling rag/absorbent paper.
-           gloss paint.
-           scumble/glaze.
-           masking tape.
