Observation


This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair.
In part (a) candidates could not name the parts labelled I to V on the athletic track correctly.

In part (b) candidates could not describe that take over zone in 4 x 100 metres relay race.

In part (c)(i) candidates stated two classes of field events in athletics.  However, in part (c)(ii) candidates listed field events in athletics correctly.
In part (d) candidates could not also state three rules guiding hurdling event.        

The expected answers were as follows:

Labelled Parts
            I           -           finish for all races
            II         -           start for 100 metres
            III        -           start for 110 metres hurdle
            IV        -           Starting Point for 200 metres
            V         -           start for 1,500 metres.
                                               
 (b)       Description of take over zone in 4 x 100 metres relay race
            It is a zone of

  • 20 metres long
  • scratch line in between
  • 10 metres in front
  • 10 metres behind
  • has acceleration zone of 10 metres before the beginning of the 20 metres

take over zone.

  • An athlete is disqualified if he clears any hurdle in another lane
  • an athlete who intentionally knocks down any hurdle flight is disqualified
  • an athlete is not permitted to run/jump outside/round the hurdles.
  • the knocking down of hurdles shall not result in disqualification.
