Weaknesss/Remedies

The candidates’ weaknesses include their inability to:

  • express themselves in simple English Language;
  • understand the question asked;
  • write private number/number of questions answered on the scripts;
  • start from simple to complex;
  • use subject terminologies correctly;
  • answer questions on a new page;
  • associate a particular skill meant for a particular game/sport;
  • describe the set position in a sprint race in athletics’;
  • mention phases in a hurdle race in athletics;
  • state safety precautions during javelin throw in athletics;
  • explain the following terms as used in atltetics: photo finish, torso and runway;
  • list types of shot in basketball game;
  • state duties of the second referee during a game of volleyball;
  • state rules guiding the game of handball;
  • explain the following terms as used in the game of volleyball: setting and rotation;
  • state conditions that would make a service valid in the game of badminton;
  • explain the following terms as used in tennis game: set point, volley and rally ;
  • mention types of tennis court surface;
  • explain how a game is started in table tennis;
  • mention spring activities in gymnastics;
  • explain the following terms as used in gymnastics: approach run and recovery;
  • mention phases of vaulting activity;
  • name the equipment illustrated in the diagrams;
  • mention gymnastics activities which could be performed on the equipment labelled II;
  • describe backward roll under the following headings:  approach, execution and finish.

The following remedies were suggested to overcome the weaknesses:

  • Teachers of physical education should take the students through the practice/skills of all games;
  • WAEC should only  accredit  schools with sports facilities/materials before giving approval to register students for physical education;
  • ministry of education should emphasize teaching of physical education with practical class rather than theory only;
  • students should visit stadia/sports Council and other sports centres for better understanding of facilities and equipment used in sports with skills associated with the games.
