This question was attempted by many  candidates and they did fairly well.   However, few candidates gave wrong answers for objectives of the All  Africa Games as physical and mental health, development of team play, to  encourage mass participation of athletes, to create forum for athletes to meet  socially.
                    The expected  answers were as follows:

                      -      fight injustice and discrimination among  member nations
                      -      bring independent countries together for  unity
                      -      integrate African sports into the world  of sports
                      -      raise the standard of sports in member  countries
                      -      encourage interaction among youths

                         (ii)   Scorer:
                    
                      - Registers the team/line up
- Records the points scored
- Controls the service order of  each team
- Records time-out/players  substitution
- Announces end of set
- Notifies the referee of the  request for interruption that is out of order
- Records any sanctions

    (iii)     Line judges:
                    
                      - Signals ‘in’ and ‘out’ of ball
- Signals foot faults of serve
- Signals when the ball touches  the antenna/ball crosses the net outside  crossing space
- Signals if any player steps  outside the playing court during serving.
                                    
                      (d)       The  instance when a held ball is declared  in a basketball game
                    
                      - When two or more opposing  players get their hands firmly on the ball (and none can gain possession  without undue roughness).
- When one closely guarded player  is withholding the ball from play and is making no apparent effort to put the  ball in play within 5 seconds.
