(a)        Explain what is meant by:
            (i)         adapted physical education;                                                              
            (ii)        corrective physical education.                                                             [4 marks]

(b)        State four conditions for which adapted physical education
            programme is necessary.                                                                                 [4 marks]
(c)        State two functions of the human skeleton.                                                   [2 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and they did fairly well.  In part (a)(ii), many candidates wrote therapeutic measure given to the disabled through organized, selected, directed physical activities.  In part (b) candidates wrote out of context and gave such answers as: it develops sportsmanship; it develops originality in human beings;  it encourages participation in sports; it helps to interact with people, for fun and enjoyment, and to trace the history of physical education.  However, the expected answers were as follows:

Corrective Physical Education
   -     A programme of activities/exercises designed to correct/improve postural
      defects such as Kyphosis, Lordosis, Scoliosis, K-leg

  1. Conditions for which adapted physical education programme is necessary

-     For the physically handicapped (lameness, paraplegia, deaf, dumb)
   -     Mentally retarded
   -     Visually impaired/blind
   -     Emotionally disturbed
   -     Poorly coordinated
   -     Physically gifted
