This question was attempted by many candidates, and they did fairly well in it although few candidates wrote out of context. In part (a), candidates gave wrong answers for what is an unbalanced diet, as “food that is not good to eat”, “food that is dangerous not balanced”. In part (b) rather than mention one effect of adrenalin on a performing athlete candidates wrote instead, lack of stamina, causes heart attack. In part(c), candidates wrote wrong answers for end product of fat digestion as “sweat” and “lactic acid”.
The expected answers were as follows:
(a) Meaning of unbalanced diet:
A diet that does not contain the correct food nutrients in the right proportion for proper functioning of the body.
(b) Effect of adrenalin on a performing athlete
- More glucose is caused to be released to the muscles for greater energy and better performance
- Increases athlete’s awareness and readiness for events
(c) End products of the digestion of Fat
- “Fatty acid and glycerol”
