From one side of the table tennis, bounce the ball on the table such that the ball rises high enough for a smash to be executed. Repeat the action five times.    [20 marks]

Observation

 

 

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good. Candidates skillfully executed smash from one side of the table tennis, bounced the ball on the table such that the ball rose high enough.
However, the expected answers are as follows:

Activity 7: Smashing in Table Tennis

Procedure: The purpose is to smash the ball into areas where it will be difficult to retrieve by the opponent. Using the two sides of the table tennis table, the candidate is allowed to
bounce the ball on the table such that the ball bounces rise high enough for a smash. Use the scale of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to rate the candidate performance in the grip, stance and execution.

(IV)     lean forward slightly
(V)      face the table

Execution
(I)        eyes on ball
(II)       hit forward and fast
(III)      hit the ball at the peak of its height
(IV)     hit the ball hard
(V)      hit downward

Product Evaluation
The purpose is to measure the ability to smash accurately into the opponent side of the table.

Specification

 

 

Each smash attempted is scored 1 point if the ball lands in the opponent’s side of the table. Five trials are allowed and scored. The best three trials are recorded.
