Observation

A large number of candidates that attempted this question scored very good marks. Candidates were expected to give the meanings of the terms in relation to art. Some candidates got it, while others misinterpreted or neglected the question because they didn’t know. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
(a)        Form
-           An element of art.
-           It is three dimensional, comprising of length, width and height.
-           It has volume e.g. cube, sphere, pyramid etc.
-           A kind of contour and the structure of any perceived idea.

(b)        Silhouette
-           An image of a person, animal, object or scene in solid shape of single colour (usually black) seen against a lighter background.

(c)        Medium

• It is a vehicle for visual expression.
• It is the material used for an art work e.g. colour, wood, clay etc.

(d)       Motif
-           It is a unit of design/shape/pattern that is repeated at regular intervals.
-           It can be formed from natural or artificial objects.

(e)        Torso
-           A sculpture of the trunk of a human body without the head, hands and feet.

(f)        Pattern
-           A decorative design usually of repeated figure/motif.
-           The overall composition or layout of an art work.
