Observation

The few candidates that attempted this question scored poorly. Candidates were unable to identify the mask. They were expected to answer in the following way:

(a)        -           A wooden mask of the Dan Ngere/Dea Mask (In Liberia
and Cote d’ Ivore.)                                                                           
(b)        -           It represents ancestral spirits.
Ew1`               -           It is used to invoke the spirit of the ancestors.
-           It serves as means of communication.
-           It is used during circumcision.
-           It is used for initiation into the Poro society.
-           It is used to frighten away women and children from the initiation venue.

(c)        -           Oval in shape.
-           Widely perforated eyes.
-           Smooth and shining surface texture.
-           Heavy eye brow.
-           Pronounced forehead, nose and lips.
-           Perforated nostrils and mouth.
-           Carved in wood.
