Question 2
- What is resist technique in textile design?
- Describe any four of the following resist techniques in textiles design:
- knotting;
- batik;
- stitching;
- marble;
- pleating.
Observation
The candidates were expected to write on the terms as methods of preventing dye solution as dye resist methods in creating the desired patterns on fabrics. Some candidates got the questions right. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
(a) - A method used in preventing dye solution from penetrating some parts of the fabric thereby creating the desired pattern.
(b) (i) Knotting
- Twisting of fabric into loops and tying it with rope into knots to prevent parts of the fabric from absorbing the dye solution.
(ii) Batik
- A method of dyeing a fabric using resistant materials such as wax/starch to prevent the dye from penetrating into some areas of the fabric.
(iii) Stitching
- The use of needle and thread to fasten some parts of a fabric to prevent
absorption of dye solution.
(iv) Marbling
- The squeezing and tying of a fabric, loosely together to prevent some parts
of the fabric from absorbing the dye solution.
(v) Pleating
- A technique where folds are formed by doubling fabric back upon itself
