Observation

The candidates that attempted this question were only able to explain cave art and could not explain the sources of colours. Rather they went on to explain the symbolic meaning of colours. They were expected to answer in the following way:

(a)        -           Pictorial representation, illustration or forms done on cave walls
by the pre- historic men.

(b)        -           The animal representations are made larger than human forms.
-           The representation of animals are more in number than that of humans.
-           Animal forms are rendered more naturalistic, while human forms are  stylized.

(c)        (i)         Red
-           Blood, red ochre and juice from plants.

(ii)        Black

•       Charcoal, animal dung’s etc.

           
(iii)       Yellow

•       Ochre, sulphur, natural minerals etc.

           
(iv)       Brown

•       Dry leaves, clay, decayed wood and fruits etc.
