Observation
(a) This is a narrative essay on an epidemic disease that broke out in the candidate’s locality, the effect and how it was nipped in the bud. The candidates who attempted it did not give detailed narration of any epidemic they witnessed and this resulted into poor performance in this question.
(b) This is an expository essay on separation. Candidates were expected to explain what separation is, its types, causes and its effect on those who were separated. The question seemed abstract to them as they wrote majorly on divorce and separation between husband and wife.
(d) It is an argumentative essay on comparing Yoruba traditional attires with modern attires. The candidates who wrote on this essay failed to balance their arguments, some of them mistook (Ìwòsàn for Ìwọṣọ) and some did not conclude their arguments. This accounted for poor performance in this essay.
(e) This is a descriptive essay on “My favourite school mate”. The candidates who attempted this question gave a description of their favourite school mate.They highlighted and explained reasons why he/she is their favourite school mate. Candidates’ performance in this question was commendable.
(ẹ) An informal letter to a friend who lives abroad concerning the rampant social vices in the candidate’s country and efforts made by the government to curb the vices highlighted. The candidates who attempted this question handled the letter writing techniques properly and they mentioned some vices and ways by which government is curbing them.
