Observation
This question was fairly attempted by the candidates. Quite a number were able to state pats and respective function of the various parts of the digestive system of a hen. However, most candidates could not give the required number of problems of agricultural insurance in West Africa while some candidates stated the disadvantages of television with respect to morality instead of as a means of disseminating information.
The expected answers include:
5(c) Problems of agricultural insurance in West Africa
- Poor record keeping among farmers
- Uncertainties of weather
- Natural disaster
- Unfavourable government policies/Poor involvement of government in agricultural insurance
- Insincerity of insurance companies
- Inadequate information on agricultural insurance schemes/programmes
- Subsistence nature of most farming enterprise
(c) Disadvantages of Television as a means of disseminating agricultural information
- Its use is limited in most rural areas where there is no electricity/poor signal reception
- The language used may not be understood by the farmer
- There is no immediate feedback on farmers’ reactions
- It is expensive to purchase and many farmers may not be able to afford it
