Candidates Weakness
Candidates were unable to:
- explain the effects of unpredictable weather and inadequate infrastructure on agricultural production
- classify insect-pests based on their feeding habits
- state qualities of good draught animals
- unable to calculate the population of plants on a farmland
- give examples of crops that belong to fibres and beverages
- state problems of agricultural insurance in West Africa
- mention the disadvantages of television as method of disseminating agricultural information
- prepare a profit and loss account using the given data.
Based on the observed weaknesses the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:
- Adequate coverage of the syllabuses by candidates is advocated. Aspects of the syllabus such as basic concepts, agricultural ecology, crop and animal production, agricultural economics amongst others should be covered by candidates with particular emphasis on the new areas of the syllabus;
- Candidates should learn with appropriate diagrams where necessary;
- Candidates should devote more time on the acquisition of practical skills in the subject.
