(d)(i) Mention one major use of Q.                                                                           [1 mark ]

(ii) State one advantage of the outcome of using Q for the purpose.                              [1 mark ]

OBSERVATION

This question was fairly attempted by the candidates. In 2 (a), some candidates could identify pick axe or digger and mattock; whereas, majority of the candidates could not identify emasculator (Burdizzo/Castrator/Burdizzo plier). However, in 2(b), majority of the candidates were able to state the uses of pick axe or digger and mattock.
While in 2(c), many candidates were unable to mention the general maintenance practices for pick axe (digger), emasculator (burdizzo/castrator) and mattock.
In 2(d) (i and ii), majority of the candidates could state the major use of emasculator/burdizzo and give advantages of castrating farm animals.

The expected answers include:
General maintenance practices for P (Pick axe or Digger),                                                              Q (Emasculator /Burdizzo/Castrator), R (Mattock)

  • Clean or wash and dry after use
  • Sharpen blade regularly
  • Keep away from rain to avoid rusting
  • Store in termite-free areas
  • Paint, grease or oil the metal parts
  • Replace any worn-out parts
  • Keep in cool dry place
