Auto Electrical Works Paper 2, WASSCE (SC), 2016

Question 2

(a)

(i) Draw a coaxial starter motor circuit.

(ii) Label any four parts of the circuit drawn in 2(a)(i).

(b)List any two types of switch employed in a starter motor.

(c)Why is it necessary to use a short cable to supply current to a starter motor?

Observation

  1. Coaxial starter motor circuit

  • (b)Types of switch employed in a starter motor
  • Magnetic switch
  • Manual/Mechanical switch
  • Pneumatic switch
  • Hydraulic switch

  • (c)Why it is necessary to use short cables to supply current to a starter motor
  • The longer the cable, the more the voltage drop/power loss (to reduce the voltage drop)
  • To reduce the resistance towards the flow of current.

A few of the candidates were able to express the diagram of a coaxial starter motor and important parts like the contacts were well indicated.
