The following shortcomings were observed from some candidates’ responses:

            -           poor knowledge of safety precaution to be taken during excavation work;
            -           production of poor sketches;
            -           poor knowledge of tests carried out on fresh concrete;
            -           Inability to sketch and label a dependent scaffold correctly.

            To overcome these weaknesses, candidates should be:

            -           given questions involving sketching of building elements;
            -           made to understand the functions of some building components;
            -           exposed to the practical aspect of building construction.
