Explain any five impact of political apathy on the society.

Observation

 

This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance was above average. To those who scored low marks in the questions, this was because they dwelt mostly on the reasons why electorates refuse to vote rather than on the impact and consequences of political apathy on the society. Expected points candidates were expected to give are;

IMPACT OF POLITICAL APATHY ON THE SOCIETY

  1. It destroys the foundation of popular participation..
  2. It destroys sense of responsibility and accountability on the part of government to the governed.
  3. It encourages corruption.
  4. It gives room for the election of incompetent leaders.
  5. It leads to loss of respect in the international community/bad image.
  6. It creates opportunity for manipulation of electoral process.
  7. It slows down the pace of development.
  8. It encourages unpopular government.
  9. It leads to crisis of legitimacy for elected regimes or government.
  10. It may lead to autocratic/dictatorial government
