Question 4

  1. Mention six qualities of a manicurist.
  2. State five final clean up sanitary activities to be done after manicuring.
  3. List six factors that influence hair growth on a client.
  4. Name two methods of reconditioning wigs.
  5. Outline the procedures for one of the two methods mentioned in 4(d) above.

In 4(a, b & c), majority of the candidates that attempted the question were able to answer it correctly. However in question 4(d & e), the candidates that attempted the questions performed woefully. They were unable to name the two methods of reconditioning wigs, which are the wig hair and the entire wig (wig and foundation.). They used residual knowledge of oiling, washing and combing to answer it. For question 4(e), majority of the candidates were unable to outlines the two methods of reconditioning wig. 
The expected answers are:
   Procedures for  the two methods of reconditioning wigs
The wig hair only:

  • Protect block with plastic covering;
  •  Block the wig properly;
  • Apply conditioner to damp clean hair;
  • Distribute conditioner evenly with a wide tooth comb;
  • Keep conditioner in hair according to the manufacturer instructions;
  • Set and dry the hair.

OR                                                                             
The entire wig:                               

  • Clean wig before conditioning;
  • Mix conditioner in lukewarm water;
  • Immerse the entire wig in the mixture for about 10 minutes;
  • Conditioner must be used instead of wig cleaner;
  • Rinse thoroughly in clean water;
  • Set and dry the hair.
