The expected answers are:

        Most candidates performed poorly in this question. They could not list the steps required in 8(a) and could not state the resistance range of a functional mouthpiece as required in 8(b). In 8(c), candidates again showed inability to distinguish between materials and tools.

8(a) Steps involved in using a multimeter to check the status of a mobile phone mouthpiece

• Plug the red and black probes into the appropriate socket on the multimeter.
• Set the multimeter to the appropriate resistance range
• Connect the probes to the terminals of the mouthpiece
• Check the resistance value on the display
