The candidates performed poorly in questions 1, 2 and 3 which were on functions of sewing machine parts, causes and remedies of thread breaking when sewing, important points to consider when making fastenings, suitable fastener for baby’s dress, men’s shirt, children’s garment, lady’s dress, travelling bag and band of a lady’s skirt, types of collars, description of collars, and types of pockets. These questions were poorly answered.

• Emphasis should be laid on subject specialisation
• Pre-test should be Carried out to know the readiness of the students to write this new subjects
• Availability of textbooks for this new subjects should be ensured
• Qualified teachers should be employed to handle these new subjects
• Organize workshops for the new subjects
