Observation

This question was not popular among the candidates and a good proportion of those who answered the question did not have a clear picture of the areas that are part of the Eastern   Scarp-lands of Nigeria.  The areas cover Enugu, Anambra, Part of Ebonyi, Abia and Cross   River States.  The Economic activities of these areas are:

-           fishing;
-           lumbering;
-           farming;
-           trading;
-           local crafts;
-           service industries e.g. banking, insurance etc;
-           transport services;

-           cash crop cultivation.

The problems of development of the Eastern Scarplands of Nigeria include:

-           environmental pollution;
-           flooding;
-           erosion;
-           leaching of soil nutrients;
-           pest and diseases;
-           poor transport network;
-           land fragmentation;
-           rural urban migration;
-           population pressure.
The above mentioned problems could be solved by:

-           strip cropping;
-           growth of cover crops;
-           creation of employment opportunities;
-           provision of social amenities;
-           flood control/channelization of rivers;
-           application of fertilizers and manure;
