This question was not popular among the candidates and a good proportion of those who answered the question did not have a clear picture of the areas that are part of the Eastern Scarp-lands of Nigeria. The areas cover Enugu, Anambra, Part of Ebonyi, Abia and Cross River States. The Economic activities of these areas are:
- fishing;
- lumbering;
- farming;
- trading;
- local crafts;
- service industries e.g. banking, insurance etc;
- transport services;
- manufacturing;
- cash crop cultivation.
The problems of development of the Eastern Scarplands of Nigeria include:
- environmental pollution;
- flooding;
- erosion;
- leaching of soil nutrients;
- pest and diseases;
- poor transport network;
- land fragmentation;
- rural urban migration;
- population pressure.
The above mentioned problems could be solved by:
- strip cropping;
- growth of cover crops;
- creation of employment opportunities;
- provision of social amenities;
- flood control/channelization of rivers;
- application of fertilizers and manure;
- use of pesticides and insecticides;
