Geography Paper 2 WASSCE (PC), 2017

Weakness and Remedies

The following weaknesses were noticed in the candidates’ scripts:

  1. Poor sketchy maps:  The outline maps were poorly drawn by the candidates.  Such map were drawn without keys to explain the features represented in the maps. The features were also poorly located within the maps.
  2. Scanty presentation of points: some of the candidates did not adequately explain the points that ought to have been explained.  This made them lose precious marks.
  3. Poor handwriting: some candidates presented their points using poor handwriting.  This made it difficult for the examiners to interpret what they wrote.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES TO OVERCOME CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES

The points highlighted below should be followed to overcome the weaknesses observed in the scripts of the candidates.

  1. Good sketch maps: Candidates can draw good sketch maps through practice.  Candidates should learn how to draw and locate features on maps.  They should also draw useful keys that would explain the features located on the maps.
  2. Adequate explanation of points: Points that required explanation of point should be adequately explained.  Mere listing of points when explanations are required will lead to loss of precious marks.
  3. Good handwriting: Candidates should develop good handwriting through practice.  This will make their work to be legible and will facilitate the acquisition of high marks from good write ups.
