(a) Draw an outline map of Nigeria.
On the map, locate and name:
(i) one national park in the north that is important for tourism;
(ii) one national park in the south that is important for tourism;
(iii) Calabar town.
(b) Outline four factors that retard tourism development in Nigeria.
(c) Suggest three ways by which tourism can be promoted in Nigeria.
Observation
This question was attempted by majority of candidates who sat for this paper. The sketch maps drawn by some of the candidates were quite poor and so they found it difficult to locate the national parks at the correct places. The ways by which tourism can be promoted include:
-training and re-training for man power
-provision of loans at low interest rates to investors
-reduction in tariffs on tourism equipment
-improved patrol of tourist sites
-good maintenance culture
-improvement in management
-improvement in management
-granting of tax holidays
-improvement in the quality of services
-improvement in wages and salaries of workers
-consistency in government policy
-tourism promotion by media
-establishment of tourism development fund
-establishment of tourism development board
-recruitment and training of more tourist guides
