Observation

 

Many candidates attempted this question and their performance was good. In part (a) they did fairly well. In part (b) majority of the candidates were able to state methods of controlling ecto-parasite. In part (c) they did fairly well in it, majority of the candidates were able to state at least two functions of public health authority.  
The expected answers are as follow:

      (a)        Ecto-parasite of humans

-           bedbug
-           flea
-           louse / lice
-           mite
-           tick

(b)       Control methods of ecto-parasite

                        -           mechanical e.g. use of insect trap
-           chemical e.g. pesticide/insecticide/repellants
-           traditional method e.g. hand picking
-           use of drugs
-           biological e.g. use of sterile male

(c)       Functions of public health authority

-           ensure supply of potable water for domestic use
-           ensure disposal of sewage / environmental sanitation
-           ensure that houses built are to standard specifications
-           help to prevent / control the spread of infectious diseases
-           control refuse disposal dumped by people
-           provide sanitary inspector for homes / markets/abattoirs
-           ensure that food vendors are trained / certificated to conform to hygiene principles
-           public enlightenment on incidence / prevention of diseases
