This question as a result of its simplicity  and direct style was answered by many candidates who can be divided into two groups.  The first group really hit the salient points in their explanation of the major types of Jihād like Jihad against self, Jihad against enemies that take up arms against one and other efforts made sincerely in the cause of Allah.
Such efforts, according to the brilliant set of candidates could involve the search for knowledge, teaching, arbitration and so on.  For the second group of candidates,  Jihād
was portrayed from the perspective of violence, intolerance and turbulence. It must also be pointed out here that lessons of  Hadith 34 of an-Nawawi collection can be adapted to explain the concept of Jihad here.  Candidates’ performance was average.
